Now, if you've worked in IT for a long time, you've certainly ran into the situation where someone went to install an HP printer, but not have a driver handy for it. To the rescue always was the HP LaserJet Serries 4 printer driver! Pretty much no matter what HP printer you connected up to the network, you could always use the HP LaserJet Serries 4 driver and be able to print... You would always have all the functionality of the normal driver, but it worked.
Now, I'm at a client and I'm trying to add to a Windows 2008 x64 server a TCP/IP based HP Laserjet 4 Plus printer and low and behold, there's no driver in Windows for it. Not only is there no driver in Windows, when you go to the HP web site, there is no driver there for it any more either!?!?!??
We'll see how the Universal PCL driver works, although I'm not holding my breath...
